The Group originally started out at St. Matthews in Ipswich, meeting in the Church Hall.
We moved to our current site in 1956. Our first hall was two second-hand steel buildings, cold in winter & too hot in summer.
After some years it became obvious that the old building was not adequate, and a new building had to be built. We were very lucky at the time as some of our children came from Sproughton, Washbrook and Copdock and their parents along with others that lived in the area raised £75,000 through grants, dances, jumble sales and another fundraising events.
We had to take out a mortgage which we repaid in 12 Years. With the money raised the present building was built and was opened by Sir Joshua Rowley (15th May 1989), it was designed to last 50+ years.
with on-going building up-grades we comply with current legislation, therefore allowing everyone to enjoy the building.
We are always striving to be more eco-friendly, the wooden block flooring throughout was re-purposed from The Cavendish Hotel (Felixstowe c.1987) and with the incorporation of roof & sound insulation together with Solar Panels, Storage Batteries & ground-source heat pumps, enables the group to keep running costs to a minimum.
